The Bread Offering for March is One Great Hour of Sharing
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,” says the writer of
Hebrews to the community of faith. That call reminds us that our actions as
Christians speak as loudly as our words and worship services. God desires our
participation in the lives of others.
Jesus told his followers, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 24:40, NRSV) Of course, God’s call to share what we have
encompasses people everywhere. Whether people are fleeing violence in the
Sudan or Kenya, suffering from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, reeling from
devastation in Indonesia, starving in India, or recovering from any number of
disasters around the United States, we are called to make a difference in their lives. We can do this through, The One Great Hour of Sharing®.
One Great Hour of Sharing, as part of Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM), is one of the four special mission offerings of the United Church of Christ. Working in more than 80 countries, the offering provides hope to people in more than eighty countries. The UCC works with international partners, and together we provide support to health, education, refugee, agricultural, and emergency relief initiatives.
