Karen's Korner

John recently gave me a book to read. It is "Contemporary Worship" by Tim and Jan Wright. I have found it fascinating as it talks about contemporary worship and reaching the unchurched. Contemporary worship takes the New Testament seriously. When Jesus asked us to "Go into all the World and Make Disciples of all People", he really meant it.

It made me think. Where is our church in all of this? Are we so concerned about our building that we forget about those outside of it? Are we coming for the fellowship or because it reminds us that we need to reach out to others? We have so many opportunities to reach out to others in our community.

1. Serving meals at the Guadalupe Center.
2. Sponsoring oil changes for cars owned by single mothers. (One Greeley church does this.)
3. Volunteering at a Woman's Place.
4. Serving with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
5. Mentoring a child at the Boys' and Girls' Club.
6. Volunteering at the food bank.

I know many of us do this. I personally get so caught up in making a living that I forget to take time to give to others and to volunteer. So far, I have walked in the Relay for Life but I need to do so much more.

We all need to remember that the Benediction is not the end of our service but only the beginning of our service. Only by remembering this will we become an "outward seeking" church instead of an "inward seeking" church concerned only with our own relationships and the property we own.

-Karen
