Mentor:
Adopt a Child

I'm asking you to be a part of something grand and wonderful! I would like to see a Mentor Program initiated this school year. I feel that this is a fantastic way to strengthen our congregation that goes much further than the sponsoring of a child during Confirmation, which offeres a great foundation. I would like to see the adult population of our church (whether it is a couple or individual) sponsor a child and be an active mentor and role model of Christ to them. It does not require money, but it does call for LOVE and time.

Here are just a few ideas of what a sponsor could do to offer support and encouragement to the youth of St. John's:

Pray - what better way to connect with someone? Ask them what is going on in their lives and offer insight from experiences and pray for them or with them.
Share testimonies - encourage them in their walk with God! Our experience can really be powerful tools to grow in faith and to trust God.
Cards - we all love having a surprise in the mailbox to remind us that we are thought of.
Sporting Events - It is always wonderful to have someone cheering us on.
Making cookies or crafts - this is a great way to hang out and connect.
Rides - offer to give them rides to church or church functions and stay to be a part of it.
Games - we could always use some diversification in our entertainment.

Phone calls, walks, movies, ice cream, coffee, puzzles, homework help...the list is endless!! Please prayerfully consider this as a chance to spend an hour or two investing in the lives of our future and our church.

Each child will have a keychain with their name on it attached to their contact information. Please see Charlie, Nicole or Wendi after worship and we will be happy to set you up!
